Broughty Ferry Regatta 2026

After more crew changes than Greta has had hot dinners, we arrived at this annual event. The wonderful Ralph Harrison saved the day early on by towing our skiff over there because the weather hadn’t played ball either – it was so windy on Friday that it wasn’t possible to have the planned row over to Broughty Ferry.

We all hoped the rain would stay away as we had no gazebo with us – cover is for wimps!

There were 9 clubs taking part this year and Team Wormit managed to cobble together crews for every race apart from the 280+ Women.

The whole team put in a great effort, and a special shout-out goes out to all the rowers taking part in a regatta for the first time, taking to the competitive element like ducks to water!

Wormit managed to bag a gold, 3 silvers and 3 bronze medals to plenty members are now sporting wooden medals made from locally gathered beaver wood!

The weather gods were kindapart from the odd shower to freshen us all up midway and then there was a DELUGE to accompany the medal presentation.Fortunately the boat shed at Broughty was (just) large enough to accommodate us all. North Berwick swept the board to become overall winner and Wormit came in third behind the host club. Most importantly, we all had a great day of rowing enjoying the company of fellow skiffies.

Special thanks must go to Greta for her magnificent coxing in so many races (her buoy turns have to be seen to be believed!) and to Ralph for ensuring we had a skiff to row in! An intrepid crew of Stuart, Gail, Chris and Iain braved the elements and had a leisurely row home in Flying Boat after rowing full pelt in the races.

Go Wormit!
