A Fife com­munity fridge is thriv­ing after a dona­tion from a local Rotary Club.

Loc­ated at Wormit Boat­ing Club, the new Wormit Com­munity Fridge and Drop-in Centre has recently received a boost of £2,000 from the North Fife Rotary Club that has gone towards buy­ing facil­it­ies help­ful to the com­munity.

Susan Aitken, who runs the com­munity fridge, said: “We provide house­hold goods, fresh foods and chilled food, but I think the big thing here is the social side, and the way the fridge com­bats social isol­a­tion.

“We opened in Janu­ary this year. We did a trial three-month period, and it was more suc­cess­ful than we ever expec­ted.”

Steve Gil­man, last year’s pres­id­ent of the North Fife Rotary Club, said: “Susan approached us and said that she’d had this good idea. We were happy to make a dona­tion of £2,000 to get it going.

“From a Rotary point of view, this ticks every box we would ever care to tick. It’s com­munity based, it’s work­ing with other part­ners, and it’s help­ing people who want to do good in their com­munity.”

The fam­ily of George Taylor, a former Rotary Club mem­ber who passed away last year, also donated to the com­munity fridge in his memory. A plaque has been erec­ted on the build­ing in his hon­our.

Dai John, com­modore of Wormit Boat­ing Club, said: “To com­mem­or­ate George Taylor, we were very pleased to have the plaque erec­ted on the club­house to mark both George’s con­tri­bu­tion and the rela­tion­ship between our boat­ing club and N

Rotary.”

The com­munity fridge is open every Fri­day morn­ing from 11am until 12.30pm.
